Some wedding days feel like a film come to life, and Katey & Devon’s September celebration at Thornewood Castle in Lakewood, WA was exactly that — a romantic, cinematic love story framed by timeless architecture and heartfelt emotion. As their wedding photographer, I had the honor of capturing every look, laugh, and tear through the lens of Sage & Soul Photography.

Their Love Story
Katey and Devon’s story began the way all great stories do — with a little chaos and a lot of serendipity.
They met at a concert in Tacoma in February 2022. Devon fought his way through the crowd just to reach Katey and, in the most unforgettable opening line, said: “You’re so hot.” Maybe not the traditional fair-tale greeting, but it worked. They exchanged social media info, and Katey (in her own words) ignored him for a month.
Eventually, she realized that behind Devon’s bold first impression was someone genuinely kind, persistent, and funny. Their first date at an arcade turned into an all-night conversation, and by sunrise, Katey knew this was different. Devon showed up at her work every day afterward just to drop off Red Bulls — a small act that said everything about his heart.
Not long after, Katey invited him (to fill in for her friend who couldn't make it) on one of her elaborate road trips. They’d only known each other a month, but hours of driving, laughing, camping, and problem-solving together revealed how naturally they fit. From trying to cook eggs in a windstorm in the desert to giggling through late-night fires, their adventures sealed their bond.
Katey said "moments like these had me falling in love with him over and over again".
She found out he had been saying "I LOVE YOU" to her in Dutch since they first met!
Devon says he knew immediately & had no doubts he was going to marry her since he saw her at the concert.
Three years later, Devon proposed at Nisqually Wildlife Refuge, surrounded by family and friends he’d secretly gathered for the surprise. It was perfectly planned — and perfectly them.

The Venue: Thornewood Castle, Lakewood WA
Thornewood Castle is one of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic wedding venues — a 500-year-old English Tudor Gothic estate lovingly shipped brick-by-brick from England and rebuilt on the shores of American Lake. Known for its starring role in Stephen King’s Rose Red and The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer, it’s a dream setting for couples seeking a classy, cinematic, luxury wedding experience.
The ceremony took place in the castle’s manicured garden, with live harp music and guests from near and far — including many of Devon’s family who traveled all the way from the Netherlands.

Getting Ready & The Reveal
The morning began at a nearby Airbnb where Katey shared laughs and tears with her bridesmaids and mom. Katey wore an off-the-shoulder fitted satin gown with a structured bodice and sweeping train — the epitome of timeless romance and modern sophistication. She had an emotional first looks with her mom and bridesmaids — moments full of happy tears and heartfelt hugs — before some family portraits and then heading to the castle.
Devon wore a tailored navy three-piece suit with a cream tie and boutonnière of soft greenery and white blooms — a refined, classic look that balances perfectly with the historic castle backdrop. Groom and groomsmen portraits were done in the men's quarters, the castle library.
Together, these two look like they’ve stepped straight out of a movie — regal, effortless, and deeply in love.
Devon didn’t see Katey until she walked down the aisle. That raw emotion she hoped for? It happened — and it was beautiful.

The Celebration
Dinner was held outdoors on the castle lawn overlooking American Lake, where guests dined under golden light as the sun set across the water. The floral arrangements by Olympia Blooms framed the tables with lush, breathtaking color.
As night fell, Devon, his dad, and brothers killed it on the dance floor. It was joyful, uninhibited, and unforgettable.
The Hall of Mirrors on the third floor was the perfect spot for unique portraits — the couple’s reflection multiplying in the glass, a romantic metaphor for their love echoing through time.
