Every month in Tacoma, something powerful happens on Habitat for Humanity build sites across Pierce County. Women from all walks of life — first-time volunteers, seasoned tradeswomen, community leaders, neighbors, friends — gather together for Women Build, a hands-on building experience designed to uplift, empower, and unite.
This month’s Women Build Day was exactly that: a vibrant, hardworking, joy-filled gathering of women committed to strengthening our community one wall, one beam, and one project at a time.

💪 What Makes Women Build So Meaningful
Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program was created to encourage more women to step confidently into construction spaces, develop new skills, and contribute directly to affordable housing in their neighborhoods.
What makes these days so special isn’t just the construction — it’s the energy. The teamwork. The laughter.
The determination. The empowering feeling of learning something new and doing something that truly matters.
Whether measuring, cutting, stapling, framing, or cheering each other on, every participant played a role in building stability and opportunity for local families.
And the best part? No experience is required. Habitat’s skilled site staff lead every step, making Women Build both accessible and deeply meaningful for volunteers of all backgrounds.

🏡 Building Homes, Confidence, and Community
Women Build is more than a workday — it’s a movement. It creates pathways for:
Leadership in the trades
Skill-building in a welcoming environment
Connection across generations and backgrounds
Real, tangible impact through safe, affordable housing
Month after month, these builds contribute to Habitat for Humanity’s mission in Pierce County: helping families achieve affordable homeownership and building stronger, more resilient communities.
The ripple effect reaches far beyond the construction site. Families gain stability. Children gain security. Volunteers gain confidence and purpose. And Tacoma grows just a little stronger each time.

🌟 A Day Worth Remembering
This Women Build Day was filled with the kind of energy that defines the best of Tacoma — collaborative, encouraging, and rooted in community care. Volunteers showed up ready to work, ready to learn, and ready to support local families in powerful, hands-on ways.
I was honored to be there to document the day through photography, capturing moments of teamwork, joy, focus, and pride. These images reflect not just the work being done, but the spirit behind it.
